New Jersey punk band Pollyanna released new album, “Slime” on June 17th. The 12-track album includes previously released singles, “SLUT,” “Mars,” “Pathetic,” and “Relationship Anxiety.” The album has a grunge punk influence while diving into vulnerability. The album talks about sex positivity, being surrounded by disingenuous people, and how hard it is to let someone go.
Jill Beckett, lead vocalist, explains track “SLUT,” “this song is more than just an anthem for all my fellow sex positive individuals, it’s a movement for breaking free out of the box we were built to live in.”
The album has a range of sounds, anyone can find something they enjoy. Tracks like striped down “Pathetic and slower paced “Pasadena” showcase the lead vocalist. There are also mosh pit ensuing hits like “SLUT” and “Mars.” The lyrics are relatable, easy to follow, and each song conveys a message.
Beckett shares, about the bands newest single “Relationship Anxiety”, “this song is basically about coming to terms with being polyamorous and being able to feel love for multiple people while also having an anxiety that because of that, I would never be in a happy relationship with someone.”
Pollyanna is a four-piece band which started when lead vocalist and guitarist Jill Beckett and percussionist Daniel McCool, met at 13 years old. Coming in later were bassist Brandon Bolton, and guitarist Jack Rose. Their name, Pollyanna, comes from the dictionary definition, “to be unreasonably or illogically optimistic.”
