Alma Grace, a Mexican-American artist and activist is releasing her single “Aventura” today! This is her second single from her upcoming EP “FRIDA” set to release on May 5th. Being heavily inspired by Frida Kahlo, this upcoming EP focus’ on Grace’s connection to Kahlo’s achievements on breaking down boundaries placed on gender, race and sexuality. This release also follows her previous drop of her first single, “Girl Fight”.
Throughout “Aventura”, Alma Grace alternates between English and Spanish, an ode to her being bilingual and multicultural. “Aventura” is set to be a pop hit, her vocals are seamless in the transfer between the two languages, making it sound smooth and beautiful. The beat blends with her vocals, instantly making you want to dance along. Lyrically it captivates you from the moment Alma begins to sing. She tells a story within the song, pulling you in to want to hear more. I feel if this is what she already has shown of her talent the EP is going to reach many people and have them fall in love with what she has to offer.
“I loved the double meaning of the word “aventura”—it simultaneously means adventure and affair, and Frida certainly had her fill of both,” Grace writes. “Frida is rumored to have had affairs with everyone from Leon Trotsky to Georgia O’Keeffe. She lived her life loving whoever she wanted to love—a courageous philosophy for a woman in the early 1900s and in the modern day.”
