Quarantine Q&A Vol.1 #8: Chaoseum

Swiss Metalcore band Chaoseum, is set to release their new album ‘Second Life’ this Friday, September 25th. Chaoseum was formed in 2018 by Loic Duruz and Valery Veings. Their first album “First Step To Hell” contains 11 songs and was released in September 2018 with Lola van Lo as the singer and Greg Turini as the drummer. In February 2019, CHAOSEUM joined SOUFLY here in the U.S for a tour of seven concerts on the East Coast. Afterwards, the singer left the band and CK Smile joined becoming the frontman. The bands shows are theatrical and captivating as the members all wear costume makeup. Their newest album ‘Second Life’ was recorded at both the Chaos Studio and the Conatus Studio. Gwen Kerjan from the Slab Sound Studio was in charge of the mix, the artwork is by Gustavo Sazestakes. Through it’s heavy guitar solos and thick vocals ‘Second Life’ brings listeners the perfect balance of macabre and metal. To celebrate the release of this album we have a Quarantine Q&A from Switzerland with Chaoseum’s guitar player, Valery. The album is currently available for pre-order here!

MR: Introduce yourself in 6 words or less.
V: Valery, guitar player at Chaoseum

MR: During the Covid-19 Quarantine, a lot of people spent time doing things they normally wouldn’t have done…did you pick up any new hobbies or learn any new skills?
V: That was an opportunity to change my guitar playing style. I learned to play hard rock and adapted now my style for modern metal. We are also recording our new album.

MR: What do you miss the most about touring?
V: Playing every day, meeting great people and discovering new landscapes. The stage is my first motivation.

MR: Do you have any Post-Quarantine plans? Professional or personal
V: Covid or not, I still have a lot of plans. With the band, we are working for the promotion of our new album “Second Life” and the release party in Switzerland. Our European tour was postponed in October 2021. In my personnal life, I would like to learn English, because mine is too bad.

MR: Whats one personal item you absolutely can not tour without?
V: Without hesitation, my wedding ring.

MR: What are the Top 3 artists you are inspired by?
V: Adrian Smith, John Petrucci and Kee Marcello

MR: Any words of wisdom for someone who may draw their inspiration from you?
V: Believe in your goals and do everything you have to do to realize your dreams.
