The I Love You..But I Choose The Maine tour hit the Odgen Theatre April 3rd. The Maine, an Arizona alt rock band, is currently tour with Grayscale, Nightly and Franklin Jonas and the Byzantines. While Grayscale and Nightly are on the entire tour, the other rotate, and fans can expect to see Friday Pilots Club, Broadside, or Moody Joody on future dates. Denver’s stop was a bit different than the rest of tour with Grayscale and Nightly having to play acoustic. The dedication to making the show and playing however they could is a testimony to how much these bands love the music and fans.
Franklin Jonas and the Byzantines
You read that right – Franklin Jonas and the Byzantines kicked off the night with upbeat catchy vibes. With twangy banjo notes, and Franklin’s vocals, the crowd danced along. Their energy kept increasing throughout the entire set. At one point, Franklin Jonas ran around the crowd and ended up on a balcony overhang! You don’t want to miss out seeing them, so get to this show early!
Grayscale & Nightly
Even though these two bands had to pivot on the fly to play acoustic, they pulled out great sets that still had fans singing along. Grayscale played some old favorites (Palette, Forever Yours) while creating a medley of Painkiller Weather and Slide. During Palette, the crowd was asked to jump to the chorus despite not having the full band, and it turned into a great moment with everyone – on stage and off – laughing and enjoying themselves. Nightly took the stage with their acoustic set, but with a twist! They chose to have guitar and then have their drummer use a box and tambourine to perform. A cowboy hat was tossed on stage from a fan just before they played 1989, making a great interaction between the band and fans. Sometimes the acoustic sets become the most memorable!
I Love You…But I Choose The Maine
After much anticipation, the wait is over as The Maine walks out! As you looked into the crowd, you could see light-up green cowboy hats and some green wigs to keep up with the theming of the tour. It shows how connected and dedicated the fans are to the music they love. Opening with Thoughts I Have While Lying in Bed and I Think About You All The Time. There’s something about being a band for just about 20 years that is felt within the venues of these shows. Between older fans there for both nostalgic and deep cuts, to new fans seeing them for the first time, the crowd sang their hearts out. John doesn’t disappoint with stage antics, and this show was no different. Instead of using the stairs, he leapt form the stage to the top balcony to have a fan sing with him.
Overall, the show was a hit! This line up is great to see with no dull moments, and The Maine’s set list keeps you on your feet dancing. There are still many dates left of this tour, but tickets are selling fast! Don’t wait, grab your tickets here before they’re gone!
