Trivium at Burton Cummings Theatre

It was a Metal Saturday night in Winnipeg at the Burton Cummings Theatre. With a killer line up from Trivium, Jinjer and Heriot! First to the stage was England/UK band Heriot opened the night with a brutally heavy, metal-infused set that immediately got the crowd already circle pitting and pushing one to the other. They were very much welcomed with open arms in Winnipeg, with such a huge metal/hardcore scene in the city, with a band like Heriot, it was basically a perfect match.

Everyone was pumped up for Jinjer, from Tatiana’s low screams/growls to her singing, she can do it all! Tracks like “Duél,” “Pisces,” and “Fast Draw” had the room locked in, circle pitting, and just moving all around. The crowd was screaming “Jinjer, Jinjer, Jinjer” throughout the whole set, and they are for sure due to come back to Winnipeg for a headline show.

Finally, Trivium took the stage, and immediately from the bottom to the top of the Burton Cummings Theatre, I heard in the photo pit in the first song, “In Waves” the crowd was singing like no tomorrow! Matt was pumped like the rest of the guys! They played so many songs including “The Sin and the Sentence”, “Into the Mouth of Hell We March”, and “Like Light to the Flies”. I’m more surprised that they didn’t play anything off What The Dead Men Say and In The Court Of The Dragon. It would have been nice to hear “Catastrophist” and “Feast of Fire”, the only new songs they played were of course, the new EP songs, which were “Struck Dead” and “Bury Me With My Screams”. It was a jam pack night with Classics though for the die hard Trivium fans!

Hopefully get to see Trivium come through to the city possibly in the Arena the next time!
